Privacy Policy

Purpose

The Society for Technical Communication Certification Commission ("the Commission") provides the Certification website as a service to its members, to those interested in certification of technical communicators, and to the public, in furtherance of the Commission's mission as a 501(c) (6) not-for-profit corporation.

Policy

The Commission is not responsible for, and expressly disclaims all liability for, damages of any kind arising out of use, reference to, or reliance on any information contained within the Commission website. While the information contained within the site is updated periodically, no guarantee is given that the information provided on the Commission website is correct, complete, and up-to-date. The names and contact information on the Commission website are published to facilitate contact with those listed for Commission purposes only. It is not intended, and we request that it not be used for, commercial purposes. 

Reference on the Commission website to any specific commercial firm, commercial product, process, or service by trade name, trademark, manufacturer, or otherwise, does not constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or favor by the Commission, its staff, or the Commission electronic media committee.

Privacy of Applicant Information and Submission Packets

The Commission considers applicant information (i.e., name, address, email address, phone number, etc.) to be confidential and does not share it with, or rent it to, outside entities, except that the Commission share this information with the Society for Technical Communication.

The Commission considers submission packets to be confidential. Only evaluators who have signed non-disclosure statements will have access to submissions for the purpose of evaluating candidates for certification.

Discussion: Applicability 

The opinions expressed by contributors to the Commission website, and opinions expressed by contributors through discussion on the various list serves sponsored by the Commission, are solely those of individuals and do not reflect the opinions of the Commission, its staff, or Commission electronic media committee volunteers. 

Although the Commission website may include links providing direct access to other Internet resources, including websites, the Commission has not participated in the development of these sites and does not exert any editorial or other control over those sites. The Commission is not responsible for the accuracy or content of information contained in those sites. 

Links from the Commission to third-party sites do not constitute an endorsement by the Commission of the parties or their products and services. The appearance on the website of advertisements and product or service information does not constitute an endorsement by the Commission. The Commission has not investigated the claims made by any advertiser. Product information is based solely on material received from suppliers. 

Email Privacy

The Commission considers email information to be confidential and does not share or rent email addresses to outside entities, except that the Commission may share this information with the Society for Technical Communication.
